Brass in your Kitchen

For a while there, silver was the way to go with hardware for your cabinets, doors, etc. And although it still looks perfectly nice and will appeal for the long haul, I'm glad that brass has made a come back. I have plans for it in our kitchen in the near future and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Especially beautiful with all the bright white to contrast.

I love all these options below:

Imagine this gorgeous pull for your fridge {here}

Beautiful colours...out of the ordinary & pops of gold - those lights are awesome!
Brass lighting is a whole other area to explore....but that's all for today folks, I just found Jake standing on the sub woofer.

Get with the Program

I'm not sure how it happened, but my favorite time of year came and went with out so much as one blog post on holiday celebrations, decorations and libations. My poor blog has fallen to the very bottom of my priority list and it makes me bummed. So here I go again, trying to "get with the program" and back on my posting.

So I guess I'll recap my thanksgiving and xmas with a few pictures.

Jakes really loved pumpkins around the house...and carried them everywhere.

Our tree only had ornaments on the top half and it's probably no surprise that Jake had something to do with that.

I put a tree in the entryway this year and it was so pretty shining through our front glass door. I put all our presents wrapped underneath {but forgot to take a pic of that} which made for a festive tree skirt.

A very serious Jake with Santa.

We welcomed a bit of snow and went sledding {a first for Jake}

These pajamas were a favorite over Christmas. And Jake really got into opening presents.

I hosted Christmas dinner for the first time and was so excited to use my china and get all fancy in the dining room. We squeezed 12 people at this table and had some good old fashioned fun.

Oh and those ornaments hanging from my chandy - that was my creative xmas project. Of all the décor around the house, best of all I loved peeking in my dining room and seeing these pretty, sparkly glass balls.

I made place cards for every one and wrote a question on the back that was holiday related - it created fun conversation and reminiscing.

I've been eyeing this tray...

You can't have too many trays. This statement especially rings true when you lay eyes on this gorgeous lucite number from Iomoi. Not only are the designs really playful and unique, but the hardware is a real stunner. I've seen my fair share of trays, but this one really takes the cake.

Maybe this should go on my xmas list?

Take a look a few of their designs...

What's Cooking

Amongst other things, I've been making an effort to try new recipes. I feel like I always make the same 5 or so dishes and how boring is that? This was prompted by an attempt to clean out my collection of Martha Stewart Everyday Food magazine...a very sentimental collection I had since 2006. As it collected dust, I decided to sift through and save the good stuff, pitch the rest. So with the saved recipes, I'm making something new each week.

See why it's so hard to throw away? It's cheerful just looking at it - and the size? I mean, genius.

A delicious success that I made this week: Corn Chowder with Zucchini & Orzo (see below)

A few weeks ago I made these Zucchini Fries and they were so tasty and addicting.

Stay tuned for more...

Starburst Lighting

Aren't these starburst sconces great? They are new at Wisteria {here} and only $69!

Wisteria - Mirrors & Wall Decor - Mirrors - Starburst Sconce

They'd be beautiful in a hallway, flanking a mirror or art collage. Love these.

I love blogging but time really slips away from me and I hate to see weeks go by with out a post...anyway, as I've said before, time to get back on track.

A few times a day something will cross my mind that I want to blog about, whether it's design related or not. Today I'm just in aw of the baby items now being carried by Jcrew. It's just too cute.
