Weekend Eats

Let's be honest, the best thing about the super bowl is the food. Between the dips, spreads, finger foods and sweets, it's pretty much recognized by me as a holiday to celebrate and over indulge.

One of my favorite snacks to make are pigs in a blanket, always a crowd pleaser. This recipe is from Martha Stewart and although there isn't much that you can do to fancy these little guys up, I have to say that the poppy seeds do take it from ordinary to gourmet.

What are some of your favorite super bowl recipes?

Pigs in a Blanket
Recipe here

I posted the link to Martha's recipe above - here is the quick version:

What you'll need:
*1 package of puff pastry thawed (14 oz)
*50 cocktail hot dogs (or as many as you like)
*2 large eggs
*Poppy Seeds

1. Poke the dogs a few times with a knife when you take them out of the package.
2. On a flour work surface, roll out puff pastry and cut in to small strips (approx. 3" x 1.5")
3. In a small bowl beat together eggs and a tablespoon of water, set aside.
4. Take dogs and roll up in individual puff pastry pieces, where you enclose the pastry, brush with egg mixture.
5. Set on a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
6. Refrigerate for approx. 15 minutes, preheat oven to 450 degrees.
7. Bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown and serve with your favorite condiments.

Enjoy!!
