Around Here

Happenings around here...

Enjoy your long weekend!

My door knocker was installed and I love it. Sir Fidel looks so serious and distinguished...unlike my zoo of a household!

I scored this vase at Anthropologie in the sale section - only $5!

These quotes crack me up - this one in particular. LOL

I found these at Whole Foods and they are sooo good! If you are some one who needs a little sweet bite of something after dinner {like me!} these will fit the bill.

Pretty Packaging

Have you heard of Mast Brothers Chocolate {here}? Not only should you check out this brother duo for the delicious chocolate they create, but the packaging is so charming. As in I want to blow it up in to a roll of wall paper...especially the anchors! These would be darling in a gift basket or make a fun hostess gift.

HomeGoods Fix

I hit up HomeGoods this week to see the latest and greatest. Came across a few items worth mentioning...

If you need a basic grass cloth rug for an entry or mud room, they had tons!

I was totally digging this. No need for a rug right now but I quickly worked up a scheme in my head that would pair well with this geometric beauty.

Another great rug...see my little helper to the left?

I'm obsessed with these ribbon sets. Perfect for the gift wrap collection.

They had a slew of upholstered ottomans hanging around...I could live with the grey ikat.

Row and rows of flat weave rugs.

I came home with 2 of these - $25 each, not bad.

They are living here at the moment...this mantle needs some love. Oh and this is my living room.

I don't blog about this space much b/c it sort of came together randomly with odds and ends but I'm starting to love it. I always wanted a navy room. Needs more love, but as I say, it's {as is every room} a work in progress.

Friday Finds

Fancy little finds from Anthropologie. These would be cute for a gallery wall. Happy Friday!

Summery Fresh Side Dish

My mom recently made this summer salad {"summer ceviche"} and it's delicious and tasty combination prompted me to do the same. It's so colorful and fresh, plus it's easy to edit ingredients to your liking. A great side dish!

Recipe {here}

Here is what my dish looked like!

Lake Life

I'll be spending the weekend on a Lake for a family reunion back in Ohio...I can't wait. I love "life on the lake"...it reminds me of my Midwestern roots and some good old fashioned fun.
Hope you have a good weekend!

Lake life

Provide old-school entertainment. With the oversaturation of high-tech gadgets in our lives these days, it can feel really refreshing (and even indulgent) to unplug for an afternoon. Play board games or cards, work on a big puzzle, read, talk, go for a walk, ride bikes or swim.

Date Idea : Bonfire , Smores

Set a casual tone. I'm not saying you shouldn't clean up a bit before guests arrive, but keeping things close to the usual state of things around the house will help put guests at ease. Newspapers on the coffee table, flip flops piled by the door and music in the background set the stage for relaxation.

Fill baskets with outing essentials. I love the idea of keeping baskets by the door, ready to go for typical outings. You could have a beach basket with sunscreen, towels and spare sunglasses, or a picnic basket with blankets, cutlery and unbreakable dishes. Just grab the appropriate tote and head out!

Reconnect at the end of the day. Even if you and your visitors part ways during the day, it can be nice to regroup and kick back together at the end of the day. Make a ritual of carrying snacks and beverages into the backyard or onto the porch and sharing stories from your day.

A Crazy Beautiful Year

My baby boy turned one this past weekend. Looking back at the last year I'm surprised how quickly time went and how much you fall in love with a little, tiny person. It has been a crazy, beautiful ride  and I'm so lucky to be Jake's mom.

We had a nautical themed party and he had his very own smash cake. He loved the cake and the crowd that watched him dig in!

 He is walking now!

He is such a love.

Where could I put this?

Have you seen the new Ikea catalogue? I already have my eye on something, but I don't actually have a place for it...yet. It's a take on the old fashioned medicine cabinet, but this comes in funky colors and it's under $200. Check it out...I'm thinking it could be a cool place for jewelry storage, fabric stacks, china, you name it. See it {here}
